It started on a ‘cat farm’
The person who thought up this famous cat is Jim Davis. He spent his youth on his parent’s farm with had about 25 fluffy four-footed animals. Enough inspiration! The comic cat is named after Jim’s grandfather: At first, Jon was the central figure of this comic, soon Garfield took over his place in the spotlights. Everybody loves Garfield for his cynical sense of humor.
Garfield’s success storyTwo years after the first sketch Garfield was discovered by a newspaper. In 1978 the first Garfield comic strip appeared in the newspaper, later on followed by many other newspapers. Garfield’s big success caused a giant merchandising: comic books, cuddly toys, eider down covers, lunch boxes, posters, even boxer shorts. You can find Garfield’s likeness everywhere. In 2001 Garfield had his first own motion picture, later on the first computer games followed.
Who is Garfield?
Who is Garfield? Garfield is a grumpy, orange-striped tomcat. He was born in an Italian restaurant, which explains his love for food. Lasagna is his favorite meal. Garfield lives together with his owner Jon and dog Odie. He, however, feels superior to human being and dog. That’s why he looks down on his goofy owner Jon. Garfield cannot talk; you can read his texts in think balloons. Jon, however, often seems to understand him. Garfield has many human features: he hates Mondays, getting up early and spiders. His favorite hobbies are: sleeping, eating and watching TV. Further, he likes to spend his time terrorizing the postman or dogs in his neighbourhood. He doesn’t same able to love, but things are seldom what they seem: he has one big friend, his teddy bear Pooky!

Tom & JerryThe best way to describe Tom and Jerry is: Cat and mouse. Everybody knows this roguish pair from the animated cartoons we watched so often in our youth. For 50 years they have been chasing each other; the infinite chase of tomcat Tom on the clever, nimbly mouse Jerry. They symbolize the never-ending rivalry between cat and mouse. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who came up with several other successes, thought up this duo. Tom tries his best to catch mouse Jerry and does everything to succeed. Jerry, however, usually is too clever for him and always has a considerable amount of good luck. They also have human features; sometimes Tom has dinner at the dining table or Jerry watches TV in his mouse hole. Sometimes they are rather bestial and is Tom sleeping in his basket. Both figures cannot talk, they only mumble. Countless pets have been named after them.
Tom and Jerry will remain immortal forever!
