In San Francisco, there are questions about whether Tatiana the Siberian tiger was taunted before escaping a zoo enclosure and going on a Christmas Day rampage that killed one and severely injured two.
In Houston, a video recently posted on YouTube also raises questions of taunting. But they involve a lion. A rope. A piece of meat. And the Houston Zoo.
The home video clip features a public feeding display at the lion exhibit two days after the deadly San Francisco mauling. You can watch it for yourself at chron.com.
In the video, a lion named Jonathan crosses a pen window covered in stainless steel mesh as a crowd of visitors looks on. Park staff select visitors to pull on a rope attached to the lion's meal, a slab of red meat, as the crowd cheers wildly.
"Pull!"
"Hang on tight!"
The pulling power of one youngster, soon joined by another, was apparently no match for the lion, who attempts to retreat with his meal in private, revealing only his backside to the rowdy onlookers.
