Scientists Create Cloned Glow-In-The-Dark Cats

SOUTH KOREA (CBS4) ¯ Move over "Hello Kitty", now there's "Glow Kitty" and it's not a cuddly new toy.

South Korean scientists tinkering with fluorescence protein genes say they have cloned white Turkish Angora cats to glow red under ultraviolet light. That's right, the cats glow in the dark.

The scientists say it's an achievement that could help develop cures for human genetic diseases.
At first glance, the fluffy white kitties may look normal, but there are two big things that make them very different.

First, the cats are clones. And second, they glow.
Scientists manipulated the donor cat's genetic code, then passed those changes on to the clones.
A procedure, scientists say could help develop treatments for diseases that impact both animals and humans.
