The tomcat pants

For some time now, we have sold in the NB stand, the so-called tomcat pants next to all other, crazy, sweet cat things. An ideal solution if you have problems with a tomcat which sprays urine in your house and which you don’t want to get sterilized. In this pants, which can be fastened with Velco, a small sanitary towel can be placed, which you throw away after using it so that you don’t need to wash the pants daily. In the June edition of 2002 you there was a pattern concerning a tomcat pants. Our secretary, Fenny Rensen, started working with this. She wrote an article in last year’s summer edition. If you, after reading this article, are also interested in the tomcat pants, you can contact Fenny or Gerrie Beijers, phone number : +31 584 36 67 77.
From the NB Summer 2003 edition
After an introduction concerning the disadvantage of a tomcat residence Lenny writes about an alternative solution, the tomcat pants. Sewing a tomcat pants. I read the info magazine and I immediately was in a cold sweat. I do have a sewing machine but also two left hands. Reading a pattern? Nursery rubber? This wouldn’t work. I told a friend that I would try a heat pants for dogs. 'Wait a minute” she said and she made a prototype tomcat pants for me. She called me, laughing, and informed me that she had tried it with her 4 cats, but she didn’t manage to put the pants on. Besides, the pattern wasn’t right. It was much too small for thick British behinds. After some adaptations our tomcats had to show the pants. They first started to act strange but when the mother cat started to growl they suddenly were able to run off very fast, with their pants on!

Houdini
But now I had to try to get the tomcats dressed myself. I managed to do so with Touchstone. He is a very quiet tomcat. But Baby Balls is a kind of Houdini and manages to get out everywhere. The first morning I got up at 5.30 am, at the same time as my husband so that he could help me out. But I managed it myself immediately! I went to sleep again but an hour later Baby Balls came in to hug but…………..where was his pants? It was in the living room. I probably hadn’t fastened it well enough.

With hot pants on the couch
We now have developed the following routine: When we go to bed, the tomcats go to the summer cottage with a delicious snack and they also get their breakfast here. We then put on the “hot pants” and they can go to the house then. In the afternoon they go in the outside run without pants and they come “home” tired and languid in the evening. Pants on and on the couch.

Straddle-legged
The tomcats look like girls who wear a low hipster with a string that pops out. The Velco around their hips cannot be seen, because of their thick fur. When they sit on their bums, the front side will puff up a little so that it looks like they are well-endowed. In the beginning they used to walk strackle-legged, like cowboys who stepped down their horse. Pretty cool! At the moment they have pants in various colors. During Eastern they wore yellow pants. I also think that the thickest ex-tomcat Dom P. is jealous of the model with a slimming length strip. Touchestone’s wish list includes a leathern pant.

Sanitary towel
At first I placed a panty shield in the pants but a sanitary towel absorbs better. It may look like a lot of trouble but it is worth trying. You mustn’t give up though. After one day I already noticed that they accepted the pants, nowadays they only bite on the Velco or roll over the floor in order to remove the pants the first couple of minutes. Stay close to them the first time because they make uncoordinated movements and could crash from their scratching-post backwards. It looks like they have lost control over their limbs. Could this occur because they feel an obstruction at their tail?

Good solution
Of course, it takes a lot of time, but if you accommodate your tomcats separately, it will also take time. You must then spent at least one hour per day there to maintain the contact. In this way you can do this during housekeeping. Also for the future it is important that they stay in the group. After sterilization you don’t have to get them used to the others again; after all they meet each other daily. If there are people who have found other solutions, we would love to hear them.
